With its series of single-storey pavilions leisurely spread across the breadth of a terraced coconut grove garden, its elegant interiors and its blend of modern, antique and Dutch-colonial-inspired furnishings, colourful fabrics and artwork, Villa Kailasha embraces contemporary-tropical style. Guests staying here have 11,000 square metres of tropical gardens to call their own, dotted with flowering trees and coconut palms that mingle with the scents of exotic blossoms. The villa’s comfortable living pavilion, a stand-alone dining pavilion and a separate dining terrace all stand open to the gentle trade winds and dramatic ocean views. In a hidden corner, a self-contained, two-bedroom guesthouse offers a peaceful retreat while on the other side of the gardens the master suite presents complete privacy with its own plunge pool for relaxing in during leisurely afternoons or under clear, star-filled skies at night. The huge garden rolls down to a dazzling 14-metre infinity-edged swimming pool bordered by a stone and grass deck with an open-sided gazebo to one side, and spectacular views of the rugged surf beach and the ocean, which is a mere three minutes’ walk from the villa’s front gate.
A team of polite, thoughtful staff, including an in-house cook, are on hand to look after every need – shopping for groceries and serving meals, snacks and drinks. Guests, meanwhile, can escape to a secluded nook to read, rest and relax, or sip cocktails while gazing from the poolside gazebo at the orange glow of another glorious Bali sunset. Villa Kailasha is ideal for a family or a small group of friends, while its velvety lawns are perfect for weddings and other celebrations against the awesome backdrop of the sea. Kailasha means ‘Paradise of the Gods’ and seldom was a home so aptly named.

This spacious room is equipped with a ceiling fan, satellite-channel TV and fridge. Guests will relish the views from the bed across the garden and pool to the ocean beyond, which are reflected perfectly in the mirror behind the bed as well. At the back of the room is a large dressing area with fitted wardrobes, plus a huge bathroom with a wide vanity unit, a walk-in rain shower and a bathtub looking into a private garden complete with an outdoor shower. Glass doors lead from the vanity area, directly into the private six square metre plunge pool, complete with a deck and thatched balé pavilion furnished with a table and two chairs.
The guesthouse presents two almost identical guest suites next door to one another within a private, partially walled courtyard complete with ornamental pond. The bedrooms feature sliding louvre shutters over glass doors, marble floors and high roofs. Each air-conditioned room is furnished with a king-size bed and armchairs, and equipped with ceiling fan, satellite-channel TV and dressing areas with fitted wardrobes. The bathrooms offer twin washbasins upon wide vanity units, walk-in rain showers and bathtubs set alongside picture windows overlooking private gardens.
The splendid fan-cooled living pavilion is open to the garden, the sea breezes and the view. The room is so large that it features three distinct sitting areas, one of which is furnished with sofas and chairs set around a large-flat screen TV and DVD player. In front of the pavilion is a wide, partially sheltered stone terrace.
Open on three sides, the dining pavilion features a terrazzo floor under a soaring roof. Cooled by ceiling fans it is furnished with two solid wood tables (one large and one small) that can be brought together to make a dining table for ten, complete with wicker chairs. This pavilion is set in a partially walled courtyard and is linked to the main living pavilion by a short pathway.
On one side of the terrace in front of the living pavilion is a separate alfresco dining area with a table for eight: a great spot for a barbecue.
A self-contained ‘butler’ kitchen is tucked away out of sight, adjacent to the living pavilion. It is equipped with an oven and gas hob, a large fridge, a microwave, and a coffee machine. The villa’s main kitchen is located between the staff quarters and the garage. It is fully fitted with a professional range and everything that the cook needs to prepare delicious meals and beverages for guests.
